Art broke his wrist.

But don't be alarmed! He's doing fine.

Last night on the way out to the car, Art slipped and broke his wrist. Jess and the kids were en route to meet me in St. Paul for dinner. Apparently Art cried real hard, but like most times he falls he recovered shortly after. But after they picked me up in St. Paul it was clear his wrist was tender and he didn't want anyone near it. So we went to urgent care and indeed, as evidenced by an x-ray (see below), it's broken. It's not cracked like older folks bones would be, it sorta just got squished and there's a little bump in the bone. The doctor said he's seen a million of them and to just take it easy and wear a brace for a month and it'll be fine. He actually said a thousand years ago they wouldn't have done anything and it'd heal fine--the brace is just to prevent re-injury.

Lewis joined us at urgent care and spent most of the time tootling up and down the hallway pushing a chair (see photo below).

Arthur woke up in pain once last night, which, speaking for myself, was probably the hardest moment I've had as a parent thus far. He was crying, confused, scared, and in pain, and there nothing Jess or I could do except just hold him. It was just really sad. But we gave him some kids Tylenol and he fell back asleep and didn't wake up the rest of the night. And today he's not complained about pain at all!

Oh no! I want to tell Art that I broke my arms too (separate incidents). Does he wear a sling? There are lots of fun things you can do with a sling - carry toys around in it, snacks, lip balm.

No sling, but those are all great ideas. I never thought of all the uses of a sling, beyond carrying babies.

Poor little guy!!! Hope he's feeling better. It's so tough being a parent when our child is hurting!
